TMLA hosts "Stella Maris Day"

The Mary Louis Academy in Jamaica Estates recently hosted Stella Maris Day, welcoming students from the soon-to-be closed girls’ Catholic high school in Rockaway Park. Stella Maris girls visitors came to Mary Louis to spend the day attending classes, learning about the extra-curricular activities and meeting faculty and students.

The Mary Louis Academy is administered by the Sisters of St. Joseph, Brentwood, the same congregation that sponsors Stella Maris. Officials from both schools worked with parents and students reviewing transcripts and arranging for a smooth transition next September. Mary Louis will be accepting Stella Maris students who meet the school’s academic requirements and will honor all Stella Maris scholarships for girls accepted for admission.

The Mary Louis Academy is the largest girls’ Catholic high school in the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens with an enrollment of just under 1,000 young women and a faculty of more than 100 members. Mary Louis has provided young women with a rigorous course of college preparation since 1936, resulting in an annual 100% college acceptance rate and a 100% NYS Regents Diploma rate. In addition, more than 90% of each graduating class receives the NYS Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation, the State’s highest diploma standard. More than 1,500 applications are received each year for the approximately 250 seats available.
